     MONOMON.SYS is a device driver that allows Deskpro XE family products
to clear 162 errors during POST when using monochrome video boards in a
standalone configuration.


SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
        a COMPAQ Deskpro XE computer
        MS-DOS Version 5 or greater


WHO SHOULD USE:
     Users with Deskpro XE family products attempting to use monochrome
video boards (including Hercules compatible) with the system board video
disabled will get 162 errors during POST.  The SETUP utility does not
offer any option for video except VGA.
    MONOMON.SYS will check and correct the system video configuration
under the above conditions every time DOS is booted.  After that, the
162 errors will be gone.


HOW TO USE:

          1.  Copy the program MONOMON.SYS from the distribution diskette
    to your system diskette or fixed disk.

          2.  Using an editor, add a line to your CONFIG.SYS file;

              Example:   device = MONOMON.SYS

              NOTE: Make sure this is the first line in your CONFIG.SYS.


          3.  The are not any command line parameters for MONOMON.

          4.  When MONOMON.SYS has successfully run, you will get
    the following message:

EFFECTS ON YOUR SYSTEM:
        MONOMON.SYS does not leave anything resident in memory.
